WELCOME TO KATIE DISIMONE PHOTOGRAPHY

This summer's wedding season flew by! I had a packed season and it was complicated by my helping on a 12-week civil trial (non-photography related). I certainly learned a lot about the legal system and have a whole lot of respect for lawyers. I'm a bit behind on blogging, so expect the next few weeks to be chock full of weddings and sessions!

Upcoming events for me personally? We are going to try to take the kids to the snow for the first time ever this winter. Probably at Yosemite's Badger Pass. Check back regularly or subscribe to catch up on the latest photos and stories.

Tritia had me at “Hello” when we very first met. Because she followed up with “I love your photos!” LOL…is that wrong that I’m so obvious and easy to please? Tritia is friends with several of my previous clients and their bridesmaids, so we are happy that this season will bring her OWN wedding! I am very excited to be reunited with many of the people I got to know last year, since their facebook updates just aren’t keeping me as in touch as I’d like to be.

Tritia and Eric generously drove up to Paso Robles for our engagement session, a one day trip from LA. WOW! So, we went to a few of my favorite locations as well as several brand new ones. The wildflowers are still holding out some great blooms right now and I REALLY have been wanting to get out there for a session with some of the purple lupin. I’m super happy that the timing worked out for their visit!

I have an old friend named Matt. He’s been dating a girl named Suzanne for many years now. So, when I got an email from Suzanne saying they were getting married later this year…I was so excited. I squeaked. I jumped. And then I realized that the email was from a different Suzanne and a different Matt. Opps! Good thing I didn’t call my old friend Matt and razz him about how long it took him to finally ask Suzanne to marry him. He’d have been so confused. After I realized my mistake, I had a good hearty laugh about it with the *new* Suzanne and Matt.

They are getting married later this year in Cambria (yea!), but live in Los Angeles (boo!). They have family here (yea!), but business down there (boo!). I will put the full-court pressure on them to move up here to the Central Coast because I need more friends like them. Fun, laughing, loving. You can never have too many friends like that!

Justin and I met a little less than a year ago during what I like to call my “dark period”.  You see, my house is a standard tract house.  Looks a lot like our neighbors’ houses…except ours has more kid toys strewn in the bushes.  The insides of the houses were built by a developer who looked to save a penny everywhere that the expense wasn’t required by building codes, especially when it came to plumbing and electrical work.  Therefore, every bedroom upstairs and my office space downstairs had NO OVERHEAD LIGHTS!  How stupid is that?

So we’ve lived for the last six years with those cheap college torchiere lamps in each room.  Which means one corner of each room would be well lit, while the remaining three corners would be dark caves.  This really was a problem in my office space.  A place where I spend hours and hours on the computer was the worst lit in the whole house.  Depressing.

Last year I finally decided that we saved enough money to hire an electrician to come and install can lights in the ceilings of the girls’ bedrooms and the downstairs office.  I called about 5 electricians for quotes.  The first ones that showed up and responded were Teague Electric.  Two brothers named Craig and Justin gave me a completely reasonable bid that same day and they were hired.  Their work was crazy good…and my life finally had light again.  No more torchieres!  YEAH!  In fact, their work was so good and reasonably priced, that we did two more bedrooms’ overhead lighting, as well as plans for some outdoor lighting later this year.

While Justin was working on my office lights, he told me about his wonderful girlfriend (weddings do tend to come up in conversation a lot with me, after all).  He gushed that Mary was so amazing and it was just a matter of time before he proposed.  And, I’m so happy he did…because now I get to meet the rest of their wonderful families when I photograph their wedding later this year.  Not only did I find the best electricians in town…I found new friends!

By the way, Mary and Justin were set-up by a mutual friend…and normally I’d agree that match-making is an art form mixed with a bit of good luck and great timing. But, in this case I think any one of their friends could have figured out this match. If you separately knew Mary and separately knew Justin…you’d probably set them up together too. It is just that obvious. Those are the great kind of couples.

I already know that Dina and Mark are fun at weddings.  We had a BLAST at Stacy and Sean’s wedding last year, where Dina was a bridesmaid.  This year it is their turn to get married and I can’t wait!  It will be at the Mission San Luis Obispo…one of my favorite venues.  We went all over the back roads of SLOtown for this session and it was so beautiful.  Definitely a great time of year for outdoor sessions, so much green and lush.  And in a note of personal confession and public congrats…Mark just finished the half-marathon that I flaked on.  LOL, I never got around to finishing my training for it.  I did have someone pick-up the registration goodies bag though.  Although, I doubt you will ever see me wearing the shirt.  Something seems really wrong about wearing a shirt from an athletic event that you didn’t participate in, huh?  Anyone out there finish the Carlsbad marathon and want a t-shirt?

Anna and Steve have been dating 7 years now.  But, “they” almost didn’t happen.  They were both living in some cold State (any state east of California and north of Florida, right?) and Steve was leaving for school in California.  He’d known Anna as the cute girl he admired from afar, but never had the nerve to ask out.  So, when he knew that he was leaving soon and wouldn’t be seeing her again, it gave him the courage to finally offer up the “I like you” hints to her.  He figured he didn’t have anything to lose, right?  Anna took a bold step and gave him Phone Number.  Little did they know that would lead to a summer 2010 wedding!

Thanks for braving the brutally cold weather this weekend, Anna and Steve.  I think you’ll find the trip was worth it.  I knew 2009 still had some amazing photos left, and this is proof.

Mackenzie and Adam are getting married in 2010 at Holland Ranch.  I loved lots of parts of “their story” together but here’s how one little part went:

Me: So, how did you two meet?
Them: A blind date.
Me: SHUT UP!  NO WAY!   (yes, i speak in exclamations a lot)
Them: Yup, really.  A blind date!
Me: Who set you up?
Mackenzie: My old roommate.
Me: I can’t wait to see her at the wedding.  She should be giving a good speech! All gloating about how she set you two up, blah, blah blah.
Them: Ummm, no we haven’t seen in years.  She disappeared with Mackenzie’s couch mysteriously and we’ve not heard from her since.

LMAO!!!  A random couch-snatching roommate story!  I’ve had those before, too!  I had one sublet my room without telling me one summer…I walked into my room to find someone sleeping in my bed, just like Goldilocks.  I suppose I’ll forgive the couch-taking girl…after all, she brought these two together.  Which also provided me with an awesome opportunity to meet them too!
