Welcome Nice to meet you!  This is just my simple blog about being a wedding photographer in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles, the people I meet, and the photographs I take...plus some stories to help you glue them all together.  Please feel free to leave a comment...I love hearing from everyone.  As my fortune cookie said "Great people will come into your life" so I take that to mean you all, too!

I am looking through Kara and Vince's wedding photos and I realized that something was wrong.  It started out gradual, but the longer I went through and edited...the more nagging the problem got.  I finally figured out that the problem was pain.  My cheeks were hurting.  I'd been smiling so much without realizing it that my cheeks actually started to hurt.  How crazy is that?  I think it was looking at Kara's big grin and super laugh.  It just made me laugh and grin, even a week later!

Kara and Vince both grew up in Alaska.  They went to the same high school.  At one point during our wedding day photos I said in a sappy, slightly sarcastic voice "Oh, it looks like you guys are standing for a prom picture.  Awww."  They both looked at each other and sorta giggle-grinned.  Vince says "Well, I actually did ask her to prom.  And she turned me down!"  Kara answered, slightly sheepishly "I already had a date.  What was I supposed to do?  I said YES today."

So, I learned a lot of things from this wedding...Alaska is now on my list of places to visit during summertime.  I could never live there, however.  Someone said it is regularly in the "teens" during winter.  Ummm...no, can't live like that.  I think that's equivalent to zero Kelvin for me (inside joke for any fellow nerds out there).  I learned that a seven year old boy clearly has more rhythm than I do (although that was not such a surprise, more of a confirmation).  And I learned that Alaskan salmon is on my top five favorite foods now.

I thought their guest book was a great idea. Kara took photos of the two of them through the years...school pictures, Halloween costumes, trips together, etc.

Just before getting announced back into their reception...Kara and Vince were just out of people's view. But, I had a little peek as they both paused to look at Vince's new piece of bling.

Chapel Hill is this incredible little church on top of the hills off of Hwy 46 East outside of Paso Robles.  I'd seen it from the highway before, but never gone inside or hiked up to the grounds.  When Lindsey and Kenny told me that's where they were getting married...I couldn't be more excited!  The day was hot and windy during the afternoon, but it became a perfect North County evening when the reception started at Vina Robles.  The sunset was goregous, the wine fantastic, and the toasts were HILARIOUS.  Several of the groomsmen even wrote a poem full of Kenny's childhood exploits which had everyone doubled over in laughter.  Then the dancing started with the live band!  Such a great night.  I don't think the party ended till after midnight!

san luis obispo wedding photography san luis obispo wedding photography san luis obispo wedding photography I got a kick out of watching Lindsey's dad that day. He watched the flurry of activity going on all around him at his house in the morning. Make-up, dresses, flowers, errands, more flowers, hair curlers...and he just absorbed it all. I love shooting wedding prep at the homes of my clients...because I get to see all the family photos on the walls. Lindsey's parents had a fantastic collection of their kids' photos all around the house. Made me feel like I knew them all so well.

san luis obispo wedding photographer Vina Robles Wedding photos by San Luis Obispo Wedding Photography Katie DiSimone Their ceremony was an Armenian Orthodox service, including a good amount of prayer singing. The couple is pronounced as King and Queen of their new family kingdom together, and get crowned during the ceremony by the priest. The priest also shared the story from the day he married Lindsey and Kenny's parents...how's that for family ties?!

What an interesting church! I love the shot of them at the altar, and then the shot of them in front of it. It looks like a hollywood facade - just propped up there with no building at all behind it. How neat.

Beautiful bride too!

Wow, I seem to recognize a LOT of your clients. My family is friends with the bride's family. Beautiful.

Brooke and Kevin held a few surprises in store for their wedding day.  I had no idea that they were such gifted dancers!  Normally when couples take dance lessons, it is so that they can "fix" some problems like two left feet or no rhythm.  Not for this couple, though.  They took dance lessons to learn something new and WOW!!  Move over dancing with the stars...they had it going ON!  The rest of the wedding was just as impressive.  Brooke is known for her coordination off the dance floor too...as she had her entire wedding planned about 2 weeks after getting engaged.  Brooke and Kevin are off to their honeymoon in beautiful Kauai soon...and you know how I feel about that.  jealous.  I told Kevin all my secret tricks to finding sea turtles, so I expect to hear back about some successful snorkeling trips.

Kealoha and Brian have an awesome love story.  They'd been friends.  Great friends.  And it wasn't until years later that they figured out they could be more than that.  Kealoha had decided to take a vacation trip to New Orleans where Brian was living at the time.  Her intent was just to stay for a little bit of time, a couple weeks of good times in the Big Easy, right?  But love got in the way in that decidedly New Orleans fashion.  Great bars, incredible jazz music, slightly humid nights...ahhh, I'm starting to sound like a romance novelist.  I don't think their friends were much surprised to hear about their relationship change...and from the looks of things, they were inevitably going to be together.
